Red pencils, why is it so hard to find a RED pencil?

When I look at the results of the red pencils I see colors that are more pink or more orange than what I expect RED to look like.  Red is a primary color.  I have no trouble seeing different shades of blue or yellow as being recognizable and acceptable shades of blue or green, but I have not found a red that does not read to my eye or to my brain as red.
Is it me or is it the medium of wax soft core coloring pencils?
